There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.

As the taboo against talking about sex decreases year by year, sexual literacy grows and grows. Yet with every term like "safe word," "prostate massage," or "polyamory" becoming mainstream, our history of using euphemisms to talk about sex is not easily shaken off. Even in cases where we use blunt phrases, we may not be using them in exactly the right way, such as using "vagina" to refer to the vulva as opposed to what it actually is.

In this way, there is similar confusion when it comes to sex toys. From the term "massager" to confusion over whether there’s a difference between dildos and vibrators, we at LELO are trying to clear the air to help you out!

Dildo vs Vibrator (rose-toy vibrator)

What is a dildo?
Simply put, a dildo is any sex toy that is used for insertion; be it vaginal, anal or oral. The word dildo has a fascinating history, and it seems only every few months that archaeologists unearth a distinctly phallic-shaped artifact from ancient civilizations. Although nowadays stone or animal horn are not usually the materials used to make dildos, there is a whole range of materials, from glass to stainless steel to medical grade silicone and even 24-karat gold like OLGA.

What makes a dildo a dildo isn’t necessarily that it’s shaped like a penis (in fact, a visit to any sex toy store today will show you the wide range of shapes, both semi-realistic and fantastic, available on the market), or whether it’s used for masturbation, pegging, or otherwise as a strap-on for two women; rather, the general consensus on what constitutes a dildo is not all it does, but what it can’t do: vibrate.

What is a vibrator?
Whether or not you believe the story that Cleopatra had the first vibrator made for her from a clay box with bees enclosed inside, you can’t argue that the invention of the vibrator did much to unlock sexual satisfaction for women. After all, more than 80% of women need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm, and a dildo that you insert will clearly not be enough.

And there you will find today all sorts of handheld vibrators and vibrating balls designed to be used externally.

Now what about toys that are intended for internal use, especially toys that target the G-spot, like the MONA 2 or GIGI 2? Although they could arguably be called "vibrating dildos," in common usage they are referred to as vibrators rather than dildos, for reasons that are as mysterious and inexplicable as almost anything in the English language.

So what is a massager?
When people talk about massagers, they’re generally talking about products that are supposedly designed and marketed as just that; a hand-held, vibrating personal massager that helps you treat all body aches and pains on your own, without the help of a professional massage therapist.

Does "taking care of your own body’s needs without anyone else having to be present" sound pretty much like a sex toy to you? You’re not alone; arguably one of the most famous sex toys ever made was a giant, plug-in-the-wall back massager from the ’80s (though thankfully we’ve developed a massage wand that won’t give you an arm cramp AND can go in the bathtub with you).

While many curious but shy young people have found that massagers are cheaper and less conspicuous masturbation aids than most sex toys, they suffer from the major flaw that they simply aren’t designed as sex toys; so not only do they lack the careful craftsmanship to stimulate your various pleasure points, they are often made of porous materials that aren’t body-safe or can’t be properly cleaned.

Does this mean that anything labeled a "massager" is bad for you? Not necessarily! We call many of our external vibrators "personal massagers" because that’s exactly what they do: Massagers. Whether you want to use a pocket-sized massager like the SIRI 2 to massage your vocal cords or somewhere else is up to you, because it’s safe for both!
